ProHealth’s Hydroxy B-12 Extreme contains hydroxycobalamin, a unique form of vitamin B12 that is naturally produced by bacteria in the digestive tract when food sources are broken down. Compared with some of the more common forms of vitamin B12 found in supplements such as cyanocobalamin and methylcobalamin, hydroxycobalamin provides distinctive benefits to protect against age-related health decline.

Hydroxy B-12 Extreme

  • Enhances cellular health by protecting against DNA damage
  • Promotes energy production by supporting ATP synthesis health
  • Supports healthy brain aging by aiding in the regeneration of myelin
  • Provides mood support by serving as a cofactor in the synthesis of neurotransmitters

Research-Supported Benefits:

Regulates Cellular Health. Vitamin B12 plays a crucial role in DNA synthesis and repair, and its deficiency has been associated with disruptions in these processes. (1) In part, Vitamin B12 helps support DNA integrity by aiding in the reduction of homocysteine levels in the body. Homocysteine is an amino acid that when elevated, induces several types of DNA damage including DNA strand breaks, which is believed to be a key contributor to accelerated cellular aging. (2)

Enhances Energy Production. A deficiency of vitamin B12 contributes to reduced energy production within the body. Vitamin B12 functions as a cofactor to create SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine) in the body, which is a methyl donor nutrient that helps support mitochondrial function and ATP production.

Promotes Cognitive Health. Maintaining adequate vitamin B12 is essential for supporting healthy brain aging, and low vitamin B12 levels are associated with impaired memory and cognition. (3) Animal research shows that supplementing with vitamin B12 may help protect against age-related brain health decline associated with amyloid beta (Aβ) formation. (4)

Supports Mood. Vitamin B12 is involved in the synthesis of key mood-regulating neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine. Serotonin, often referred to as the "feel-good" neurotransmitter, is synthesized from the amino acid tryptophan with the help of SAMe, which requires adequate levels of vitamin B12 to function optimally. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter associated with reward, pleasure, and motivation that also relies on vitamin B12 for synthesis. Research shows that vitamin B12 deficiency is associated with mood dysregulation including irritability and personality changes. (5)

  • Hydroxycobalamin is a unique form of vitamin B12 that plays a critical role in supporting methylation, DNA repair, energy production, brain health, mood, and longevity.
  • Vitamin B12 is a cofactor for the enzyme methionine synthase, which participates in the conversion of homocysteine to methionine.
  • Methionine is an essential amino acid that serves as a precursor for S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe), a crucial methyl donor in various cellular reactions.
  • SAMe, derived from methionine with the help of vitamin B12, is involved in methylation reactions.
  • Methylation reactions play a key role in the synthesis of DNA, RNA, proteins, and neurotransmitters, all of which are vital for cellular function and energy metabolism.
  • Methylation reactions, facilitated by SAMe, contribute to the synthesis of ATP, the primary energy currency of cells.
  • SAMe is also involved in the methylation of phospholipids, which are integral components of cell membranes and play a role in cellular signaling and energy production.
  • Vitamin B12 is essential for maintaining the health and function of mitochondria, the cellular organelles responsible for energy production through oxidative phosphorylation.
  • Mitochondria utilize nutrients, including those derived from methionine and its associated methyl donors, to generate ATP.

Hydrocy was the key component for me. It is better than other B-12 supplements.

Easy to take, tastes great!

Having a high quality b-12 that I can take under my tongue is wonderful! Some b-12 supplements can taste metallic but this has no weird aftertaste and tastes like berries. I can even get my husband to take it everyday, which is a total win. Plus it has a unique source of b-12 that is perfect for long-term health benefits.

Better than methyl b-12!

I thought methyl b-12 was the best until I tried hydroxy b-12. While it is too soon to tell (only been supplementing with hydroxy b-12 for four weeks), the immediate energy boost provided by hydroxy b-12 compared to methyl b-12 has alone won me over!
